General Surgery Residency at Spartanburg Regional Hospital
The Spartanburg Regional General Surgical Residency is a fully accredited
five-year community-based training program. The program has an academic
affiliation alongside the Medical University of South Carolina. Surgical
training is intended to prepare the resident for certification by the
American Board of Surgery and a successful career as a general or
subspecialty surgeon. Our training program accepts three categorical
residents and up to three preliminary residents each academic year.
During residency here, there is an excellent operative experience balanced
with a strong academic exposure. This model assures a fundamental knowledge
of the basic sciences, an understanding of evidence-based surgical training,
and compliance with the core competencies defined by the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education.
